    JOB DESCRIPTION

    JOB TITLE:  Payroll Specialist II                                                             

    DEPARTMENT:  Payroll

    FLSA STATUS:  Non-Exempt               

    DATE:  December 1st, 2017                                                                   

    I.  Position Summary and Primary Responsibilities    

    Compiles payroll data used to process payroll for approximately 2,500 U.S. and Canadian employees. Maintains payroll records by performing the following duties.

    Essential Duties and Responsibilities include the following:

    ·         Compiles payroll data from time sheets and other records.

    ·         Prepares and processes payrolls

    ·         Reviews wages and hours computed.  Corrects errors to ensure accuracy of payroll.

    ·         Prepares periodic reports of earnings, taxes, and deductions.

    ·         Processes weekly payroll files to general ledger

    • Provide Customer Service to internal and external customers with a sense of urgency via email, phone calls, written requests and/or one on one.

    ·         Resolve payroll discrepancies by collecting and analyzing information.

    ·         Requires effective planning, prioritizing, organizational skills, originality and flexibility in setting up, maintaining, and controlling rigid deadlines and schedules.

    ·         Willingness and ability to work with detail.

    ·         Work collaboratively in a team environment

    II. Basic Qualifications  

    • High School Diploma or GED
    • A minimum of two-five years payroll processing experience.
    • Proficiency in Microsoft Word, Excel, and Outlook. 
    • Familiar with accounting and payroll software such as Oracle, PeopleSoft, JDEdwards, ADP, Ceridian or others.

    ·         Knowledge of related financial areas (tax, general ledger, treasury, etc.) and the impact that changes and/or problems in the payroll cycle will have on those areas.

    ·         Knowledge of federal, state and local governmental payroll tax regulations. Ability to interpret state tax law manuals

    III. Preferred Qualifications 

    • FPC (Fundamental Payroll Certification) with multi-state environment. 

    ·         Ability to read, analyze, and interpret technical data

    ·         Ability to write in a clear and concise manner

    ·         Ability to effectively present information and respond to questions

    • System oriented and previous experience with an automated integrated payroll system.
    • Ability to calculate gross to net paycheck.
    • Ability to solve practical problems and deal with a variety of concrete variables in situations where only limited standardization exists. 
    • Ability to interpret a variety of instructions furnished in written, oral, diagram, or schedule form.
    • Excellent written and verbal communication skills and the ability to work well with all levels of employees (including management).
    • Ability to effectively plan and organize
    • Ability to write reports, business correspondence, and procedure manuals.
